from our friends at Coralations.....please consider support for this worthwhile organization.

It’s Not Too Late to Donate for 2007

The New Year of 2008 will be celebrated as the International Year of the Reef to raise awareness about the importance of the coral reef ecosystem and the dire need to protect the ecosystem today.   Caribbean coral reefs now face unprecedented stress from human impacts.  The combination of warming seas and declining coastal water quality is today altering the oceans chemistry and causing unprecedented coral decline. Our shallow reefs are the nursery grounds reef fish as well as over 70% of the fish who live in the open ocean.  Clean and clear tropical coastal waters are critical for maintaining the biological balance in our seas.
The conservation opportunity for meaningful protection of the coastal ecosystem in our region, is the implementation and enforcement of existing clean water laws and regulations.
In partnership with the Mid Atlantic Environmental Law Clinic, CORALations has obtained court rulings to force the United States Environmental Protection Agency to update Puerto Rico’s coastal water quality standards and to implement anti-degradation policies.  This oversight has also forced repairs to a leaky tube from an outdated waste water treatment facility in Ponce, discharging waste water close to shore and near pristine coral reefs in an inky plume of black water the local fishermen called "El Monstro del Mar", or The Sea Monster.
To continue this important clean water advocacy in Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands, we ask that this year, you consider donating to our friends at Widener’s Mid-Atlantic Environmental Law Clinic.

This is a great gift to give to your *green* friends! Or yourself. It's a funny  t-shirt with a good purpose.
