so yesterday, I took close to 700 shots (the joys of digital). and after yesterday's awakening without my morning coffee and meditation, I said I was not going to wake up early or quickly this morning. oh well.....
I was awakened by my mother yelling for me at 4:30 a.m. (o'dark thirty). Yikes! Is it a fire? Is something really wrong? Did the moon fall out of the sky? Nope.....turns out my father had woken up and found this visitor (maybe Santa in disguise), had woken my mother up and the vicious early morning wake up chain continued.
or maybe finally this is my prince.

so mind you, I haven't had coffee for the second morning in a row, and trying to figure out the camera and the flash, which I rarely use....

he is so ugly that he's cute. For those visitors that have never seen one of our toads, these are huge -- they fill a dustpan, and weigh at least a pound. They are very poisionous to animals -- dogs will lick the skin, and it is almost always fatal. Yes, people have been known to actually do the same thing for a high....yuck!!!!!!

Great thing about Culebra; there's always a hammock available in the afternoon to make up for the lack of morning sleep.

yeah, but I need to go shoot the beginnings of the preparation of the pig for tomorrow's fiesta!!! I'm not sure, but maybe this idea of a photojournalistic essay on pig roasting might take my taste for it away......
and tomorrow morning I'll be awake early waiting for Santa's arrival.

Very cute toad! He sure is a big one! Again, loved by my 7 year old son, especially after hearing how poisonous he is!
