Bayberry and friends had a picinic lunch today tied up to a bouy in Lana's cove. They were joined by two humpback whales and a younger one who played for over an hour. I can hear Lana and Nancy yelling with glee all the way up here in Maine......what a special treat for everyone.......

| We watched the humpback family for at least an hour, cavorting, diving, rolling, leaping, blowing, flipping tails up, often in tight formation side by side. It appeared to be a male, female, and young, who were within just a very few hundred feet of us most of the time -- almost close enough to wonder whether they'd actually come up along side our boat. I would guess that it was a favorite playground, just off the southwest tip of Luis Pena, dancing around Lana and Nancy.

| That is so cool I can't even fathom it. Is this the primary whale time in Culebra's vicinity?

| I think so, Doug. We see them quite often in the channel between us and North Cay at this time of year.

So...where was your camera???? I was on the cargo ferry today and a woman said...are those whales? And I stupidly did NOT have my camera (shopping trip, figured, more weight, just leave it) so I couldn't tell if they were whales or waves...Lucky lucky you (all!)
Here is a weird thing that happened though. We were heading into Fajardo, back from SJ, talking about Judy, wondering what the name of the hospital is where she being treated, and suddenly Susie's eyes go big because next to us is John and a friend of theirs. She is still in ICU. All good thoughts and prayers, send their way. It wasn't a whale, but it was a a surprise sighting!
