It's too Late! OH MY, OH MY! Doug, I have to take my hat off
to you, that was very funny, short,, to the point, in fact a
little snarky-like? I recently purchased an intel mac the kind
that runs OS X on one side and Windows on the other. I
don't know what I was thinking.
I'm not into 16 gazillion screensavers, getting
viruses, or the thrill of playing solitaire or
backgammon on my computer. Yet I had fallen for it, somehow
I had to find some redeeming value for what I had done
(purchased Windows software). After many sleepless nights
it finally dawned on me. Not only had I not made a stupid
mistake, I had in fact contributed to the salvation of the
human race, by keeping Windows alive and prosperous!
Here's how, everyone has an inner fear that
computers will one day be smarter than man, possibly
take over and dominate us. But fear not since the most
pervasive development from PC Windows software
script-kitties has been in ubiquitous computing. Having
hit their ceiling with "exciting 3D Yahtzee" and home
security systems, they took their prodigous talent to;
"artificial intelligence"? No, to computers in your refrigerator,
hair dryer, clothes washer, in your clothes. Thanks to the
greed of man (Bill Gates) we have ventured horizontally.
thereby saving mankind, and I helped.
I feel so much better now, in fact I'm going to get me a
ballcap, put it on backwards, slip into some baggy clown
pants, holler YO and take another shot at my PC!Attachment: Doorstop.png (Downloaded 54 times) Last edited on Mon Jan 21st, 2008 11:09 am by Jim

I'm no big fan of MightgoSoft or Windoze. I wasn't a Bill Gates fan either, although I do applaud his charitable choices. I actually AM considering purchasing a Mac, because my primary computing need, along with internet browsing, is for graphic and media manipulation. I hesitate a bit because I don't relish having to relearn my way around the system. And, there is a significant pricepoint differential. I'd feel better if there was a little competition in this market, doncha know.
And, finally, I pledge not to heap scorn on the unwashed for PC ownership!

The problem is with Internet Explorer v6 and v7.
FireFox, Safari, IE5 and probably any non-Microsoft product will not exhibit this behavior and also offer a variety of options (see the attached screen shots of each browser).
So... Windows users of this site can simply download and install one of these free web browsers until they become one of "us" (and we know they are ALL envious of the superior operating system) or switch to one of the FREE linux distributions and tell Bill G to you kiss your Start menu.
BTW - I never seem to experience jet-lag EXCEPT when taking red-eye flights. Just now getting back to normal or whatever it's called.

Dude,
Thanks for the lovely illustrations. I bet a young'n like you can even read 'em! Anyhow, is the jist of the message that the problem is in my browser? That other browsers, including IE5 allow a single-space hard return?

Yesirreebob (I mean, Doug).
The document was not intended as an eye chart, just to give you an idea of the variance in editing options available in each browser when posting to the forums on this site.
Doug, it's not your eyes failing, only the forum software downsampling any images posted to a width of a few hundred pixels.
Here is the full size image:

And (since size does matter) the individual ACTUAL SIZE files for those who are too frightened or lazy to download Sarafi or Firefox on their PeeCeez running WinDoze:

Much easier on the eyes, thanks!
Now...I inspected all the screenshots and note that none of the editor screens show a return preference or option. In fact, none show any functionality that the IE7 version doesn't have. I'm not dissuaded from looking into a Mac for my next 'puter, but I'm still adrift on the inability to do a single-space hard return on this board.

Just download, install and start using Safari or Firefox on your PeeCee and your spacing problem will be solved for this forum.
And... you may avoid a few virus and malware infections to boot.
