Sounds good!!  I am even going to attempt to put a relevant picture in as my avatar, despite my inept technological capabilities!

Good idea Debbie!  This is my problem, usually when we get home we are having such a difficult time getting assimilated to "normal life" that I forget to write up trip reports and such.  This time we were actually more focused on planning our next trip down (in August again, YAY!!).  I think we may have a slightly obsessive problem here!  :D

Like a teef in the nite

Didn't save no soles

Walked too much

Don't ask me what that was about...it just came out

Yeah, a quick in and out, checking on my family. My mom had my two favorite dishes ready for me: (Admin., cover your ears) fish head soup with fungee, and salt fish :). I was in P.R. for a couple of days and squeezed in that very short visit to Culebra before my flight back to the states. Though short, it was a very pleasant visit. It would have made it extra special if I had seen you.

Fungee
Fungee is a paste-like ball of cornmeal and ochroes.
Ingredients 2 Cups corn meal
3 Cups water
Salt to taste
3 Ochroes (cut into pieces)
2 Tablespoons of butter

Now you know.

(Next time, let me know, I'll meet you in the side parking lot of the airport, no one will ever suspect a thing!)

Reminds me of my first lesson from Sharky. He taught me the
local names of the various beaches (playas) and keys (cayos).
The familiar looking dome key way beyond Punta Noroeste
(Northwest Point) is charted as Alcarraza, some gringos call
it Sombrero, but the locals call it Bolafunche or bola de funche
because it looks like a ball of Funche or oatmeal balls.
Fungee is an alternate spelling. CC Charts and maps
section online will have a chart/map showing various names.

You are welcome to try the site as we build it.
Go to http://www.theculebracalendaronline.com and you will see the
beginning of it. There is a scrollable phone book for businesses
and government. The calendar (in color) is selectable page by
page; no lengthy download necessary. The Left buttons are
partially active. The first bank is active except the phonebook
(which will be residential) the second bank has Coral Farm and
]Fish Farm live now. They are great popups with links. Fish
and wildlife are coming soon. I'll finish more links next week
after I finish the April Calendar. Why is there only 24hrs in a day?
I need at least 30! My 15 minute break is over, Marsha says i
have to back to work!

Jim,

I could swear I've seen charts where Bola de Funche was labeled Fungee 'Bowl' vs. 'Ball'. Might have been an old navy chart - not NOAA? A beach that is often called 'Tortuga' is actually Tórtolos. This is the little beach between Zoni and La Brava.

I remember you teaching me the proper name of this beach many moons ago....you were so polite about correcting me.....and you talked about getting mangos from your grandfather's tree, which still is at the bottom of my folks driveway....

that was taken in Jaunary during those freak high seas we had -- normally the beach is much more mellow looking, but that day the waves were ripping in there...very majestic.

I'm assuming the tree isn't producing, as I haven't heard any thing about mango overdoses.....I guess with no rain, mangos are a true commodity....shall I send you some from our market in town:P
