Unfortunately, I feel the need to report that Culebra has been the victim of a rash of robberies......very uncommon for Culebra, but it seems we have a few bad eggs on Culebra at present, and until the police can find enough evidence to arrest those involved, I think we all should be a little more cautious than we are used to.

For visitors and residents alike -- you may want to lock the doors to your homes and cars, and when at the beaches, just be aware of not leaving your valuables out in the open.  Also please report any suspicious looking cars lurking around, or anyone walking that seems somewhat out of place.....with enough alert eyes, this should take care of itself.

While this might be upsetting to some visitors, this is nothing like Stateside crime.  But because Culebra is not used to this kind of living, it's taking us all a little more time to take the precautionary measures that we need to, and it is also very distressing to all involved.....

Even with this blemish on our island, we are confident that the police and community will put a quick end to this, and our laid-back casual wonderful life will continue as before.....and we are also confident that with a little common sense, your Culebra vacation will be one of, if not the best, in your lifetime, and you will be back to visit again as soon as you can!

Thanks for being honest and giving the whole picture of what is happening in Culebra.  It is not very realistic for people to think "nothing bad happens" in Culebra.  Alerting people to the problem will hopefully get more people noticing things that aren't quite right and find the people involved.  Community and tourist involvement can only help keep Culebra safe and truly a unique place.

Compared to many luxury destinations, Culebra remains one of the safest places to be.  Friends of mine landed on Maui, rented a car and were en route to their condo. They pulled over to walk down to the beach in hope of seeing whales, and returned 5 minutes later to find all their possessions gone from their jimmied car.  Care and common sense is required, as it is at home.
