Benjamin Maldonado lost his long and courageous battle with cancer, and the island lost a very special man. He always had a smile for everyone, and brightened my day at the store walking by -- always with a smile and hello. He worked extensively with the island youth, and I know made a big difference in many of their lives. I doubt there was a person on Culebra that he wouldn't have helped if they needed it.
God must have needed a truly bright star in the sky to call Benjamin home -- we'll miss him greatly, but I know he's watching and smiling from up above...
