This was a pretty interesting article. I really liked how he portrayed Culebra!

With that link, they think it is MJ and she has used her 5 free article searches.  Everyone else can just go to http://www.ft.com and search   culebra   and click on Hope for Bill.

Sorry, "they" is the limit on free articles the Financial Times lets you browse.  You get 5 free browses then you have to subscribe.  The url you posted contains some data that identifies the reader as being on your computer.  Once any computer has searched 5 times the service stops being free.  It's like the dope dealer...first couple are free; then when you're hooked you pay.  Have I totally geeked your day by letting you know this?

I used MJ's link and had no problem at all.  They didn't even ask for a picture to make sure that I wasn't she. :D  Perhaps it's you Doug - what did you do to alienate the Financial Times?

This is an interesting year, first Jurek and now
a prominent PBS personality is possibly coming
to get away and relax. They are looking for
peace and quiet and a massage or two. I'm
coordinating, as soon as I confirm I'll post details,
not to overrun the individual, but we are definitely
going to entertain a lunch or informal visit
and chat at BR's. Possibly at the Nation Magazine
meeting group, which is every Thursday at 11:00am
at BarbaraRosa's

Huh...I would think the last thing a serious writer (or serious anyone!) would want is to chat about what they do all the rest of the time. I was really glad I had no clue who that guy was...

Yes, you would think that they would and actually
they want to, but they are creatures of their own
invention, and in their case just like politicians
their game is to be known/recognized.
A little flattery and away we go. Playing to their
need to escape is not necessarily in their best
interest. As you know we have a few heavy-
weight literary types here this time of year,
it would be silly not to make an introduction
at least, particularly when both are from N.Y.

I'll give you an example how I learned the hard
way. 1983, McGovern was running for President,
A friend and myself were co-chairs for his Iowa effort.
We were just getting off the ground, Fall of '83 and
Eleanor would be flying in to DesMoines to celibrate
their 40th Anniv We decided we would give George
and Eleanor some privacy. So werented the Presidential
Suite at a way-out-of-town hotel, then we
drove them there, left them without a car, and said
we would see them in the morning. They were very
polite and it seemed as though they apprecited it.

We returned to downtown to plan for the next day
to hear that Sandor Vanocur had arrived to surprise his
old friends on their anniv. and the campaign office
had dutifully told him that George would be arriving
in the morning. Others were disappointed too.
Upon hearing this Linda Wertheimer (NPR)
just laughed and quietly clued us in on how we
screwed up, after all this was a campaign. That
story is still going around.

I found out then and later that when Public types
really want to escape and relax and not be known,
usually a major domo does it and usually under a
different name and rarely do they leave it up to "us"
to protect them.

When I asked the intended tourist "What do you do in
New York" and the answer was "I have a television
show" it was Game ON! Although I agree we'll be discreet.
Maybe Island Woman should do the interview?
