Sorry to inform you that Vladimir Rodriguez lost his
battle with cancer Tuesday morning. We have been reluctant
to post, it's a real downer for the community to lose someone
at such a relatively young age. Our thoughts and prayers
to Mairi. Will update svc info mañana.

My heart and soul weeps for the communities loss of such a special, special star, and his family and Mari.

I willl do extra drumming and meditation this morning......

God must be really desperate for shinning stars up in heaven, but I know when I look up at the nighttime star, Vladimar will be shining down on all of us.

Excerpt frpm Brian O'Hanlon's TRIBUTE TO VLADI

In the summer of 2007, Vladimir approached me at the airport in
Culebra, he was looking for a change of pace, a new job, and had
heard that we were hiring.

We asked Vladimir to spend two weeks working with us at
Snapperfarm to assess his ability, skills, interest, etc. After
spending those first two weeks with him I realized he could
help fill the management role and he was incredibly eager to
take on the responsibility. It turns out Vladimir had a love and
passion for the sea that I never knew about. He was so cool,
calm and comfortable working on the water which is something
you don't find in many people.

He started out at the University of Puerto Rico pursuing a
degree in marine biology. However, he yearned to be in the
sea when most of his time was spent in labs and classrooms
because the school didn’t have the facilities to conduct field
studies. This along with the fact that a marine biology degree
didn't assure a successful future in Puerto Rico lead Vladimir
to a different path, but it was clear he never lost the interest.

Vladimir managed operations for Snapperfarm for several
months. He did an excellent job and I was excited with the
prospect that that he would be a long term addition to our
team. When his cancer reared its ugly head again late last
year after several years of remission, Vladimir insisted that
he would continue to work as long as he was physically
capable and his doctors would allow him to. It seems like
just yesterday he stopped working even though it has been
nearly 8 weeks, but I am sure for him it seemed like eternity.

Vladimir was incredibly well respected in the community.
I am sure I can speak for the entire island when I say that
he will be missed and that we wish nothing but the best for
his wife Mairi and his family. Vladimir and Mairi have been
together for 15 years. She was by his side through this entire
ordeal taking care of him and making him as comfortable as
possible, including granting his last wishes to be back home
in Culebra
for his final days.

Vladimir and Mairi have not been working since mid January
and to make matters worse, the government insurance program
Vladimir was covered under is trying to liquidate any assets he
had to help cover the medical expenses and there really isn’t
much to begin with. Snapperfarm will be making a donation to
help Mairi in these difficult times. If you wish to help Vladimir’s
family you can send donations to: Mairian Mercado P.O. Box 597
Culebra, Puerto Rico 00775

I'm thankful for Brian expressing so well what all of us who knew Vladi and know Mairi are feeling, plus giving us yet another great Vladi story.
Stories make the memories live and the memories, in this case, are all good and will be long lived with much laughter, when we feel like laughing again.

I have just received a letter from Vladimar's cousin and he asked me to share the following words with the Culebra community.

Subject: Vladimir Rodriguez

I am new in this forum. The reason I joined was to download the picture of Vladimir and Mairi one of your members posted. As you may know by now, the condition of my cousin Vladimir worsened and he died this week. I'm not sure if you already new about this. My family and I appreciate the efforts you made to help both Vladimir and his wife, and the emotional and kind words they said about them.

If you could, please inform your community about this. I am not that good with words right now. Thank you so much. Raul Medina, Vladimir's cousin
