There will be a meeting this Friday, Feb. 16th at 11:30 in the Multi-Purpose Room next to the Alcadia about a proposed change of re-routing of the ferry from Fajardo to Ceiba. If this matters to you, and it should, please plan on attending!!

Excellent post...Vieques wants this as it will be a shorter ride for them. No doubt the taxi drivers want it as it will be a longer haul to go shopping, to the doctors, etc. Culebra does NOT want it.
Also, Friday is the flea market at the old bank. Peeking in the window, it looks like some great stuff is going to be there! Arrive early!

Ugh! That would make a much longer haul to San Juan. Are there rental car agencies in Ceiba? I know you can't answer this, but locals - please ask at the meeting - if it changes, when would the change take place? It may affect my parents' upcoming travel. Thanks!

It's the one Marsha et al do every year...I'll find out more stuff and post tomorrow.
I think there might be a broken beach chair with some warm sand in it, will that do? If nothing else, you can set it on fire for warmth!

Well, I feel bad I didn't get there but apparently the meeting was HUGE! People spilling out the door and into the street, hundreds of signings of the petition. Someone told me Vieques doesn't want it either...don't know yea or nay on that...but  hopefully our voice will wage in. There were kids who are going to college on the big island, teachers from that college who said they accept the kids being a half an hour late because of the ferry but that the extra time from Ceiba would be too much, the elderly who rely on doctors etc. and the publico prices to get to them in Fajardo who will be paying more plus almost twice as long a trip....but then...there are the developers.
There is a new slogan from the BVI's...it says, Save the BVI's...Eat a developer. I'm not far behind that thinking (except that I like meals to be edible without food poisoning).

Just talked with a good friend on Vieques, who "knows everybody", and she confirms that indeed the Viequesnes are all highly opposed to the Ceiba move and for the same reasons as the Culebrense oppose the change.   Poor Vieques -- they are also facing moving the PASSENGER ferry way, way out of town to the breakwater that is on former Navy land, on the uninhabited western part of the island.   They've built the dock, the terminal, but not yet the parking.   The parking will be several hundred feet from the terminal because the breakwater is too narrow to accomodate it.....
