Well, Last night's public meeting re: the apartment complex "Lute" proposed for town was very interesting. For one thing I was incorrect in my initial description of what the site was about. If you walk down to the town dock passed Butiki, the lot in question is on the right side facing the bay.  It's across the street from El Coral with the red roof.
  1. There was no one official from ACDEC there, just the public, architect, Pedro, and the owner. ( a doctor from PR)
  2. There were about 50 people in attendance.
  3. The proposal is for 2 ...3 story buildings each with 3  two bedroom apartments.( 6 apts. total)
  4. They came with a site plan and an artist's rendering.
  5. According to people at the meeting with knowledge of the "C3" zoning, this project does not adhere to the regs.
  6. The zoning calls for not more than 2 residential buildings using only 50% of the land available for the structure.
  7. These 2  buildings use almost all of the land to the max.
  8. A discussion re: the maritime land usage was also included.
  9. The meeting lasted about 1 1/2 hours with many opinions voiced.
  10. It occurred to all of us as we spoke that our voices were only being heard by the builders and that all of our concerns and zoning discussion would be in vain.
  11. We tried to communicate the sense of what Culebra is, and stands for, and our desire to retain it's beauty, not to see how much $$$ can be squeezed out of it. I feel that discussion was moving to the public, but fell on deaf ears re: the owner. That's only my opinion.
  12. A petition of sorts was written up and signed by the people in attendance with our concerns.  I'm confident it will reach the appropriate officials.  Will that do any good???
Pam
