With prayers for his safe return, I would like to share with the Culebra community that our very own LCDR Dru Daubon, son of Janie and Druso, and brother of Pepe and Jennifer, deployed to Iraq on the day after Christmas for a 6 month tour. He will be serving in a special unit investigating land bombs, although his area of expertise is underwater.
As a community, we should be very proud of Dru and all the troops who so bravely defend our country in these sad times of war.
I offer this prayer from the Sisters of St. Francis in Philadelphia (I happen to know that's a favorite town of someone close to Dru). If you say prayers, please include Dru in them.....
A Prayer for Our Soldiers
God of love, God of peace, Min Ha’Meitzar Karati Yah. Out of the depths of despair, we call to You. Our ears ring with the words "Do not fear." But our stomachs churn with the acid of doubt. Determined to preserve our shared world from the tyranny of terrorism, we turn to You for answers, for values, for strengths.
We stand before You with respect and concern for those who have been summoned to protect and secure our nation, our world. Give them the courage to meet the chilling stare of death...Return them safely to fulfill dreams unrealized so that they may bless Your name through the lives they live. May their efforts further the cause of peace throughout the world and bring us closer to the day when "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn of war anymore." Amen.

Our hearts go out to Jane and Druso and I am posting
here to help others understand the abject fear by parents
facing this news. My daughter Wendy went to Iraq on the
invasion after staging in Kuwait. Everyday of her tour
there was agony for us, she came home shortly after the
Sadaam statue was toppled.
Looking back it seemed like less problems and casualties
in that era, and it was, as it turned out. The invasion had
it's own stress & nightmares, remember the gas masks, the
high probability of chemical and nerve gas attacks etc.
It was unbelievable. The rhetoric to stir our passions for
war also stirred fear and anxiety in families of soldiers.
Now Jane and Druso have to suffer the cold reality of what this
war has become, a nightmare of greater proportion than we
ever imagined.
Hopefully we are winding down. As for winding down,
I will never forget coming back from Vietnam, having
been wounded and the stress that my family went thru, and
then having to hear the news say things like "there were
only 10 casualties this week" My blood would boil, it may be
only 10 to you, but it's still one precious life for each family
that has lost a son or daugher, and one precious life that is
prayed for by each family with a member still there.
We are very proud to have children honorably serving their
country, but the civilian leadership is another matter!
God speed a safe return for Dru.Last edited on Sun Dec 30th, 2007 01:03 pm by Jim

"I will fear no evil, for you are with me" - Psalm 23:4
This is what I told my husband to say every morning when he was deployed to Egypt. Thanks to God he is back, safe and sound
