I was lucky enough to be out boating this morning and was able to see how extremely well attended this year's Heinekin regatta is.   I don't think I am exaggerating by saying I'd guess that about 40  large sailboats were competing in a race between the south end of Culebra and Vieques, as well as about 12 or 15 turnabouts (very small sailboats) were racing in the bay.   Then there was an enormouse turnout of spectator cruising sailboats and an even bigger than average flotilla of what we call the "Puerto Rican Navy".   Those are the big cruising powerboats which are based on the Big Island and visit us any weekend with calm waters.   We went out to Culebrita early and by 11:00 when we left we had been joined by about 25 or 30 power boats, some as big as 60 feet, many with music loud enough to be heard on North Cay, a police boat, a Customs boat, and a spear-fishing diveboat.....

A friend was talking to a significant professional man from St.  John, whose son is on one of the racing yachts.   He quoted his son, who participates in these Heiniken events around the world, as saying that the one in Culebra is by far the nicest and the most family oriented.   Another compliment for our bit of paradise.

Hope someone posts some more photos.   The weekend is blessed with idyllic weather.

OK, I'm breaking one of my own rules and helping some poor shy lurker dude.

the thing that saved him is he happens to be one of the better photographers I know, and he got some great shots of the regetta today.......

it's a good thing he's a likeable guy (only on leap years).:D

Didn't mean the stupid dog photo.   Meant the one with 6 or so white sails all juxtaposed....

Did anyone catch the Saturday night party?  Was there a repeat of last year's entertainment?

It sounds (and looks) like a great time was had by all during the Regatta. On our sail from Jost to St. Thomas we saw a number of race boats on their way back to where ever they came from, and then ran into quite a few people on our brief St. Thomas leg of the trip. All of them want to move to Culebra!
Fantastic photos (and, yes, I did have a wonderful time in Jost, a needed recharge of internal batteries - c'mon Semana Santa!)

One boat you didn't see on Culebra this weekend. Imagine hearing the haunting sound of a conch horn...and then, around a headand comes this...Aragorn's boat, loaded with who knows how many people of all ages, sizes and colors, cruising through the moderns to anchor in two feet of water. Dramatic stuff!
