The hawks were soaring through the valley this morning, so I grabbed my camerea and just then this young one landed on my neighbors roof.

The books all tell you not to take pictures of the tail-end of anything, but I think this take-off photo really displays the tail and strength in the wings  of this "juvie" red tail hawk.

I have to tell you...in agreement, forget what "the books all tell you" about that! The one thing I'd have suggested is to have cropped that shot to the closest/biggest you could get. It's great and I'd have loved to see it bigger.

The shots I took of the hummer today had a few of her (yeah in my mind it's a her) with her head turned away and her tail feathers flared... I didn't have the courage to post them, even though I liked them very much myself.  So can you do a more magnified shot of that? I'd love to see it - great shot.

Each spring, the alewives leave the ocean and swim up the rivers to spawn....they actually swim up many falls like the one above....

the birds (osprey, bald eagles, herons and the gulls) have feeding frenzies.....this was basically the first day of it, and for the next couple of weeks, more and more birds fly to the coast.....

and we're talking standing in water that is a little colder than Flamenco, and with a little bit more force  as well......only a Maine man would be in a t-shirt doing this -- it was warm today, but not that warm (62 degrees).

Hillman,

In underwater photography, those type shots are referred to as "fish-butts." This is my favorite hindshot (and I catch a lot of flack for it), but I like it, and that's all that matters!

DD, I love that photo also.  It leaves so much to the imagination of the viewer.  I can actually see the tear drops on the old ram's face as he watches the encroachment of his territory.  Thanks for putting it up there for us.
