no matter how many bald eagles I've seen, my heart still does little skips seeing them in the wild.....it's mate was off collecting nest material which Ted and I saw, but the pictures were not so great (I haven't quite gotten the rocking boat and still camera thing down).....

we went down the Kennebec river for dinner.....but as good as dinner was, both of us were  still enjoying coming around and seeing this one just posing for the camera (OK, that's wistful thinking -- dinner was being hunted)....

Is the boat too small for a tripod? A couple of years ago, I shot fireworks from a pontoon boat on a lake in Alabama and got some great shots (thought they were on my website, but I guess not). Here's one.

a pontoon boat is a little different (and steadier) than a regular boat, and the Kennebec is a large enough river to have wave action -- a tripod would have had the same issues......my captain has promised a flatter ride next time now that we know where the nest is.  When I talk nest material, I'm not talking twigs -- it was a branch.
