Pointed out to me by Linda a couple of weeks ago, this century plant next door has finally bloomed - I think the bees like it!

Great picture MJ!!  I will make sure my Mom sees it.  She was asking what EVERY flower was when we were just down there!

Thanks. I have to tell you, this is, so far, the most excited I've been about a photo I've taken. For your mom, this is the whole plant, not such a great shot but she can get the idea, I didn't think about judging the height of it...but I'm 5'2" and it's a LOT taller than me!

the bee shot is professional level -- what a great shot....and those century plants when blooming are so cool!!! Getting the height in a photo is next to impossible (I'm sure a pro could do it, but I'm certainly not at that level).....enjoy those bees....they are disappearing quickly....

Wow MJ, that plant is amazing!!  I think you did a great job capturing the height of it.  I've been having computer trouble again, so it took me a while to see this picture.  Your first one with the bees is a truly great shot---you SHOULD be excited--and proud!! :D

I'm excited, and proud, but as I used to fool around with the *old style* SLR's, I realized there is no way I would have ever gotten that picture without the camera I have now...without getting stung...I don't have the knowledge or skill. This camera rocks!

Spring is coming! I expect (oops, time out..two roosters freaking out over a measly hen outside my door) no less than the first blossoms, that robin...c'mon! By the way, without all the batteries and the charger, I'd be doing a LOT less! Thanks more. And advice to anyone with a digital camera that takes regular batteries, get the rechargeable batteries and a battery charger, it makes ALL the difference - I had no idea.

I didn't have my camera with me yesterday and missed a photo op of two white ducks flanked by a Canadian goose on each side -- all four on the very edge of a frozen pond next to the road starting at the ice with longing -- clearly wishing for spring as much as me so they could go swimming -- the looks on their faces was priceless.

There are going to be a lot of us locals, and maybe even the ducks and geese jumping off bridges if our forecast is right for Thursday.....one more storm will send us all over the brink.

AND century plants have an extended life:   A local here, who does outdoor work and loves Culebra's natural treasures, cut the whole "dead" flower stem from one of ours, made a cute little triangular tree stand and attached it to the (very woody) stem -- and voila, an instant Christmas tree!!!

Wow that small century plant reminded me of one of my
regular size swords on the mountain. This Century Sword
bloomed about 3 years ago. It was probably 35-40 feet.
Notice our worker Falin next to it. Actually that's a little
deceiving because Falin is only 5' tall. Still impressive huh!

That is extremely impressive! Didn't they ask you to cut that down as a potential plane flight hazard?? I thought I heard that somewhere...Hopefully, I'll be long gone before those plants get that big, as they would blot out the entire sky and I can't imagine bees I'd have.

Yes it really was that big. In fact we had cleared out a little area
between the roots (they lift up in the air and stand on their roots)
and made a little patio there. Unfortunately there wasn't enough
room for an umbrella and you did have to stoop a little! But the
dogs loved it.

I'm thinking of hiring one of the dozer guys to transplant one of them a bit more on this property. Within a year or two, I'd have a unique island home, which AD would most likely be fervent to photograph and cool furniture companies anxious to decorate.
Something like this for the bedroom...
