| This little chica built a nest in the rafters under our house. She sits on the telephone wire and complains to us that we are in her space. Um, hello? If you'll pay the mortgage, chica, you can move right in. Attachment: Kestrel.jpg (Downloaded 92 times)

Sweet. Looks like a raptor, not sure which. Regardless, it is beaucoups good juju to have a tenant like her.

I think it's an American Kestrel. I described it to a professor of Herpetology (no sh!t; you meet all kinds here, dontcha know?) at the Dinghy Dock on Friday night. She had a bird book in her bag, and confirmed it. Besides hummingbirds, she said it is the only other bird that hovers.

MJ - the map on this site http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/58/_/American_Kestrel.aspx clearly shows that they live in PR year round. Whassamatter - you're so excited by your ability to run DSL that you're just clicking around and around and not paying attention? Kidding!

Island Woman is on DSL???? Yippeee, I'm just thinking of all the big files I can send her without fearing her annoyance!!!!!!
Congrats to Kevin (and Peter) on Amanda's great show!!!
and as for species, with climate change, we are seeing all kinds of things in Maine which have never been seen before -- the entire state of our world is changing, and all the text books are gonna have to get tossed and re-written.....it's a scary, scary situation.....

Call me for Peter's Cell
Jim 787-379-1973
Locally the Kestrel is called Falcón Común
I'm sure MJ was thinking that.

Great picture Debbie! This is a picture of the beautiful one we had hang out with us in November. Only for about 1 1/2 days, in the rafters over the front door. It made a really cool sound, too. If I remember correctly, kind of like an owl "hoo", but softer and not as pronounced. Does that sound familiar???

You're not an idiot! You just have to know how to do it. Email admin and she'll tell you exactly how to do it.

LOL....here I am.....
below the white box, where you type words is an area for Attachments. Click on Choose File, and that will allow you to browse your hard drive for the picture you want to attach. It must be saved with a .bmp, .gif, .jpg, jpeg, .png, .txt, .pdf, or .zip extension, and has to be saved as a small file....
let me know if you have further problems -- I can't wait to see your kestral pic!!! I love kestrals, and I've spent entire afternoons chasing them around to "catch" them on film.....Attachment: sm_kestral.jpg (Downloaded 47 times)

OK, I "know" how to post a picture, as far as following the basic steps. My problem this time is that it just won't do it. I click on browse, find my pic, it shows it is attached, I click send and then.......nothing. I thought at first it was because I was editing my picture, I tried to zoom in so the bird was easier to see, but it won't do it even without that. I tried copying it from the disk onto my computer, it still won't work!! What am I missing???? Ok, trying one more time!!

aren't computers wonderful?
make sure the picture has the correct extension (usually .jpg) and is small....the system can't handle big files....try opening it in your photo editing software and saving it as a low quality picture....
if all else fails, e-mail it to me, and I can post it for you.....

Hee hee. I finally got it. Thanks for all the support though!! It was too big, I had to re-size it. I thought I had posted pictures before without re-sizing, but I guess not! Wow, that was pretty frustrating for such a crappy picture!! I really wanted to zoom in so you could see the bird better. We were afraid to get too close when we took the picture and our little point and shoot camera doesn't zoom in very well!! Ah, well! What do you think? Same bird?
