Hi, My name is Pepe

Thanks to those who conceived this forum. It's a great way to bring news to those of us who are far away and hoping to one day return to Culebra. As a twelve year old I lived with my Aunt Josefina Velez and Tasito Peña during the period between 1970-71, and remember the times during the weekends when the Navy would engage in their "fun activities". It was all new to me, having been born in San Juan life in Culebra during those times and thereafter imprinted upon me. I am aware of the dramatic changes taking place in the Island, and it is hard to accept those changes when you got to see what Culebra was like several years ago. I can vividly smell the pungent "aroma" of the Mesquite or Rayo tree. (an introduced species) which I didn't like at all, also the Cebú cattle roaming every "farmland", their size terrified me. The local Calypso band was electrifying and awesome. Last time I visited with my relatives in Culebra was in 2003 or 2004 can't remember well. I hope to visit again soon, travel fare allowing.

I remember the absolute beauty of the Flamenco beach from the first target tank to the end at el "Muellecito" The then underwater experience was magnificent.

Pepe,

Welcome to the forum.  I think you'll find it to be the next best thing to being on the island!
