"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...."
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful sato who was lovingly taken care of by her island friends at Animal Welfare of Culebra. They put her on a plane and sent her far away, way up north, to a foreign land called Ohio. She had never lived anywhere but the streets of Culebra, so it was a very daunting event for her. She handled it the best she could and was dubbed *Galilea" upon her arrival in the strange, new land. She wasn't sure how to act around all these humans who fed and watered her and let her sleep inside! When in doubt, she froze---solid! Absolutely still!! After she realized the hands coming towards her meant no harm, she relaxed slightly, enjoying the soothing strokes on her soft fur.
She was taken to a doctor, treated for heartworm, and then went to live in a warm, gentle home with a foster mom, Anne, a canine sibling, Sofie (who is quite possibly more shy than herself!) and a bird. Life was good there. Anne took her to work with her a couple times and Galilea even took some treats out of other people's hands---a very big step for her!! Then........it happened. Someone wanted her. They had 3 kids and were very patient and understanding. They could indeed give her the time and help she needed. She is so afraid to ask for love, but so grateful to receive it. But, alas, Anne couldn't bear to part with her and has decided to make her a permanent part of her family! Galilea is so happy to be able to stay with the person she trusts most in this world and Anne has filled that part of her heart that was just waiting for Galilea.

At the same time, another sato girl took the adventurous journey north. She couldnt' wait!! She had lived in a great foster home in Culebra and understood the benefits of living in the human world!! She got off that plane in Ohio and was ready to go. Look! Kids! Look! Other dogs! Playmates everywhere----what joy!!
After her arrival, Suki (as she was now called) was taken to what had to be one of the most fun dog camps in the whole world. She got taken care of and had all kinds of doggie friends to play with! She loved it! She didn't even mind that she hadn't gone into a new home yet, she was just having tons of fun. Some other animal rescue people who live even farther north---in Canada!----saw her picture and called their buddy Rose. They wanted her, oh they knew that someone up there would love that little girl and they would find her a home! Arrangements were made and the time was quickly approaching. Suki was taken to a fun carnival day, that the rescue people called an *adopt-a-thon*. She, of course, loved it there and had a blast. One man came to the carnival just to see her. He loved her just as much in person as he did when he saw her picture and the rescue people said, after asking many, many questions, that he could keep her!! This is the day she had been waiting for! A person to call her own! Her new dad used to be a police officer, but is retired now, so they will get to spend tons and tons of time together! He even has a teenage daughter that will stay with them sometimes!
Now, there will only be the best of times!!

I see a children's book here, dear Beachbound. You just wrote the first two chapters...and I want more! I'll buy a copy, even!

| Sounds good to me! Anything that might help in the pursuit of the Ultimate Goal, and raise awareness also sounds great to me! Know any publishers??

Nope, not these days for books. But I do know Writer's Digest. It's a bit pricey (comes out every year) and well worth it. Every bit of info on mags to contact - actually, editors to contact (can always turn chapters into articles), as well as agents/publishers. Just get a copy, check it out and then ask me questions via email. Children's books are big...just ask that wizard woman
