There is a tradition in Culebra about making canoes out of zinc. It has been lost. They used to race between Cayo Pirata and El Batey. Well, Chiquitin made one at my house. I had a kids' camp at my house and he was helping me. Maybe w can bring the tradition back.
MJ, I need to send you the photo so it can be publish. I don't know how to do it.

Carmen casting her bread upon the...oh wait, that's something else. Carmen surfcasting, looking like a pro...the kids did it too, and caught bait fish, just like they were told they could. Nice how that works

Campers & Island Woman - forgive me for not remembering who made the very hip tie-dyed t shirts...but I wish I had one. At least I was in the right color family.
This was such a nice group of kids, youngest to oldest. Grinning, polite, interested (I think it helped that Carmen gave them ice cream for breakfast), learning and doing activities that have been part of Culebra for generations. What more could we want but more of the same for more of the children?
Thanks Carmen, and the many others who worked to make this happen, and thanks for letting me share a little bit of it.

| The celebration with the boats is to Our Lady of Carmel, the patron of Culebra. It is the patron for fishermen. It is also celebrated in many towns in the Big Island.

| Thanks for sharing Carmen!!!! Like Debbie, I wish we outsiders knew more about the traditions of Culebra, and I'm so glad that some of them are being passed down to the next generation -- it would be so sad to loose them....

What better reason for starting a new category on the forum? This could be the innaugural thread.
