Thanks all.......Island Woman will get a kick out of the next step is that I have to frame and price it for sale. Now I know why all my artist friends could never price their own work. Then I get to go to an opening reception where the public can meet the artists (that's me -- feels very strange to be on on the other side)......and I'm sure that involves wearing pantyhose, which will be a story in itself.
I took the shot on Darmiscove Island off the coast of Maine. Currently under the stewardship of the Boothbay Region Land Trust, it was a summer fishing location for Native tribes and only has an old (very) lighthouse and Coast Guard Station and the fishhouse on it.....it' very barren, as it gets pretty beat up in the winter storms.....but a truly magical place.

Yep...fun pricing your own stuff, huh? Go online, research research research!
It's still cold enough...if you MUST cover your legs (yer a freakin' artist, you don't have to *fit the mode*!!!!) wear tights with a dress/skirt or slacks with silky long socks...sheesh! Go arty here, girl! Throw a yellow big scarf over your shoulder with something like this (and wear warmer shoes ) Wa la. I forbid you to wear pantyhose!!!

LOL.....that outfit would be perfect in say mid-August. In May, we still are wearing our woolys and praying it won't snow.
I'm off to shoot the sunset and ice flows on the Kennebec river up country a bit.....

| Remember, If you price it at least $1500 plus frame, there is no dress code. Just remember to ask where the hospitality room is and if they'll be sending a car for you...

"In May, we still are wearing our woolys" that should be woolies
Whatever...so wear a long underwear shirt and wellies until you get inside. Do I have to come up there and dress you?? I got married in November, in a very cold place..wore a BLACK (should have been a clue, but nooooooo) antique velvet, red silk lined to the ground cape that I tossed off to wear a lightweight (cream colored...white looks...not me) dress inside...
Or, just go with that cold thing! Dress as a Maine Fisherman or WoodsWoman! Wear the flannel shirt and the lined jeans, wool socks and wellies, camera bag slung over your shoulder...and don't forget the yellow scarf...I'm telling you, a good scarf can change a country. Be brave! Be new! Be YOU.

Yellow
Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.
Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy.

That....is a woman in a yellow scarf!

More re Damariscove -- the setting for Admin's prize photo. Not only was it a significant Native American summer settlement (they were smart enough to head back to the mainland for the winter) but it also had human settlement in the late 1500's. At that time there was an enormous cod fishing fleet from Europe plying the North Atlantic waters. Damariscove, which has a deep sheltered harbor and relatively flat landscape, was a perfect place for cod to be dried over the summer before the fishing fleet headed back to Europe with their catch.
Then Damariscove was actually settled by the English in either 1607 or 1608, placing it later than the lost colony in Virginia but at least contemporaneous with Jamestown. By 1615 there was a year round community of at least a dozen souls. It's other claim to fame was that in the winter of 1620 when the recently arrived Puritans were starving at the Plymouth Plantation, they sent out a ship to ask for food. Damariscove, which by then had even more settlers and some farming, not to mention the thriving fishing and shellfish industry, supplied (donated without charge) the food that got the Puritans through that dreadful winter.
A couple more sidelights: Damariscove settlers were hardy individuals, not religious protesters as were the Puritans. They exhibited their toughness by charging for their food the next winter when the Puritans showed up again.
The island suffered terrible attacks during King Philip's War, otherwise known as the French and Indian Wars, when all the European settlers retreated to the mainland and south to New Hampshire. It was re-settled for the entire late 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries and prospered. By 1920 or so the 12 mile distance to Boothbay made it much more sensible for the residents to move ashore.
Damariscove is now a bird preserve and exquisitely beautiful place. It's eastern rocky shore looks out straight across the Atlantic. The landscape quite reminds one of the Scottish isles. It's harbor is a very popular anchorage for summer sailboats and is still a working fishing base, with a fleet of lobster boats based there. There is a tiny museum and several hiking trails crisscross the island making it a favorite place for a day next to nature and history.

Wow!! BIG congrats to you Admin----that is really awesome!!! Good luck with the pricing, I don't envy you the task!!
I wholeheartedly agree with MJ on the pantyhose thing. Artistic license totally precludes the pantyhose requirement. This time of year go with pants or a skirt and tights. My personal preference, since I put tights very close to pantyhose on the "no more in this lifetime" scale, is a longer skirt and boots. You're in Maine, I'm sure the Wellies would be acceptable, right???
Let us know how the show goes!!
