Wifey and I were awakened at 4:30 am by the house shaking fairly intensely. It lasted a minute and fifteen seconds after we woke. I jumped on the net and learned it was a 5.4 centered 127 miles east of us.
This was the second strongest I've experienced. In the 90s,I was sleeping on the roof of a houseboat on Lake Powell, Utah when the lake swelled up more than a foot and fell. The boats we were tied up with, rocked into each other doing quite a bit of damage to their hulls and railings. We later heard that tembler was centered in a remote area of CA, and was a 7 something.

According to yahoo:
A 5.4-magnitude earthquake that appeared to rival the strongest recorded in the region rocked people up to 450 miles away early Friday, surprising residents unaccustomed to such a powerful Midwest temblor.
The quake just before 4:37 a.m. was centered six miles from West Salem, Ill., and 66 miles from Evansville, Ind. It was felt in such distant cities as Chicago, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, and Des Moines, Iowa, 450 miles northwest of the epicenter, but there were no early reports of injuries or significant damage.
The region is located in a region bordering the much more seismically active New Madrid seismic zone, according to the geological survey's Web site. In 1811 and 1812, the New Madrid fault produced a series of earthquakes estimated at magnitude 7.0 or greater.
Experts say another major New Madrid quake could destroy buildings, bridges, roads and other infrastructure, disrupt communications and isolate areas.

and there have been multiple 3.0 to 4.2 magnitude quakes about 50 miles northeast of Culebra in the last day or so.... Check out the official site

and select the map for the Puerto Rico region.

Bayberry, did you feel anything?
We've had 3 aftershocks, including a 4.5er that rattled the windows and doors... living on the New Madrid Fault makes these kind of freaky. Don't want the Mississippi to flow backwards again, don'tcha know.
