so this morning, I was off to show Bayberry and her partner the loon's nest, and we found this Snapping Turtle crossing the road. I helped it across so it didn't get hit -- I used Bayberry's partner's cane to help the process......
these guys (and gals) can be quite agressive, and have a very quick bite -- hence it's name. it's claws are used for burying in the ground......

Snapping turtles...I'm sure a lot of us have a few stories of encounters...luckily mine involved: 1) a duckling - that I rescued and 2) my sister's finger, not mine

| Sunday morning, I spotted a female snapper laying eggs on Nantucket. She had the good sense to do it on the grounds of the Conservancy's Field House and Laboratory...

Here's one from the Arboretum wetlands of the Missouri Botanical Gardens, taken several years ago. BTW, I hadn't noticed a cane when last I saw Bayberry's partner. Knee issues?

yes, knee problems -- he also finds it's handy to take to public gatherings as a prop -- he always gets offered a seat. plus its the perfect turtle herding tool.

I was wondering about the cane as well. Whatever works! Our elders deserve special treatment, cane or not.
