I just finally heard from my friend in NOLA.....he just snuck back in past the police lines to the Lower Ninth Ward (where his non-profit group, LowerNine.org is based)......there was some damage from Gustav, but nothing extensive......mostly buildings that had been damaged in Katrina, and had not been fixed yet.......

he fears that if another storm comes along, the city will not be able to talk people into evacuating again....he did compliment the government on how well this evacuation was run and orchestrated.

He reports that central Lousiana and the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas not only suffered extensive damage, they are still under basically hurricane conditions between rain and tornadoes.

NOLA is allowing residents back into the neighborhoods tonight.
