So I'm going to rub it in a little and rave about stateside living and the benefits here, because I suspect that by tomorrow, I'll be starting my winter whine, as the four letter word beginning with "S" is coming our way.....
Last night, I heard, in one concert, on one stage, Joe Krown, Mississippi Allstars, Charlie Musslewhite, AND Mavis Staples. Let me tell you.....what a show!!!! Mavis is incredible (as is Charlie) -- still has a voice after all these years (she said she's been singing for 57). One highlight was Charlie Musslewhite doing a new song called Blackwater about New Orleans and Katrina, and he opened it be saying people had suggesting calling it Bushwater.
At anyrate, I've finally decided what I want to be when I grow up -- a background dancer for Mavis Stapes.

According to Buffet, we grow older but not up. And dat's de way - uh-huh, uh-huh -I like it!
BTW, JazzFest announced, today, that the Neville Brothers will be returning, for the first time since Katrina, to close the 2008 Fest. Heard it through the Culebra grapevine, no less.

you know, funny you should mention Jazzfest. I was thinking about you today. I've been asked to do a photography documentary on a friend's re-building non-profit group he started in NOLA, and it's open ended as to when I do it in the winter/spring, and I was thinking (of coarse it's all about ME!) that it would be fun to combine it with a trip to jazzfest and that got me thinking about you of coarse. And the news that the NEVILLE BROTHERS are the closing act might just seal the deal. I'm going online to check it out right now.

The St. Croix Jazzfest is this weekend...but closer to home, Jazz by the Bay is Saturday up at Bahia Marina. The 15 dollar ticket includes a wine and cheese bar (that could be a real money loser, guys) and should be a lot of fun. Some of the artists and shop keepers will also have goods available for purchase.

Nah...you have to do a whole lot more than have way big fun anywhere on Earth for me to hate you! The good envy? Yep! One of these years...hey, I'm still trying to get to JOST more than once every 4 years (of course, it costs as much to get to Jost as to get to Naw'lins if you don't go with a boat).

Amigo Cubano is headed to the St. Croix affair with his ever-lovin'. The coral will have to keep a stiff upper polyp until she returns.
Last year the tix were, as I remember, $35 per day. You could get them for less by buying them in advance from ticketmaster, but the fees ate up the savings. I decided to buy at the door, so the whole amount could go to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation, who needs the money to keep solvent so this incredible show can go on. Given what you get - 60 bands/performers per day, this is a lot of bang for the buck. The rub is in the lodging prices. Nawlins knows how to turn you upside down and shake out every last cent from your pockets. Not that it stopped me very often; I've been to more than 20.
The return of the Nevilles makes me want to go, but I need to weigh the costs and my days off. I have an invite to Nantucket next summer and the usual Four Corners plans and let's not forget our own Paradox...
A simple 1st place finish in the current Powerball could remove all this juggling of plans! *sigh*

Yes, well my motto is, I can only be young once but I can be immature for ever.

My motto is...life is short, eat butter. I don't know what that says to my being a grown-up or not...I've always felt a bit short for the job.

The Neville Brothers are coming to Bahia Marina? When I was was in
college (1970) we used to say to the freshmen, "Led Zepplin is
playing in the student auditorium tonight, keep it under your
hat" Later that year I was on a student council team to coordinate
with Old Dominion Univ and William and Mary because Black
Sabbath was booked for Blow Gymnasium at William and Mary,
you guessed it, nobody believed us at first. I met the advance
man (U.S.) he was driving a blue metalflake Dodge Charger and
got high in the parking lot with someone. What an afternoon
and evening. Outdoor ampitheater, Ozzie and company, smoke-
filled atmosphere, the place rocked to the first band to really
crank metal, but because of the atmos War Pigs and Paranoid
still sounded "cool" Months later we switched drugs and finally
understood what the hell he was "really" doing. It's like Purple Haze
you either have heard it or you've "really" heard it.
This was Ozzie in 1970, he' almost two years younger than
me so he was 20-21? In person he was baby faced, looked

I don't know why not. Giovanni Hidalgo played for free in the street in front of the ferry dock.

I really like that "It's never too late for a happy childhood"
any special origin to that or do you get all the credit?
One day in '90 or "91 my daughter Wendy brought
this gal into BarbaraRosa's and said I want you to meet
my new friend Sarah, she just finished recording an
album. I said great nice to meet you, I had gone
Bankrupt on a studio venture in 1989 (it's how I got
here) and I was used to meeting all kinds of people who
"just cut an album" but were looking for a backer.
I said to Wendy quietly "They are a dime a dozen"
and I can't do anything for her anyways. I had lost my
enthusiasm for the business and was untypically
dismissive. Wendy says "No Dad she already has a
record company, the album is coming out this summer(?)"
I said "yeah right" the artist . . . Sarah McLachlanLast edited on Sat Nov 17th, 2007 07:03 pm by Jim

| I take full credit, as the words flowed from my tongue while observing the psychedelic flea market in a parking lot following a Dead show in the early 90's. About two years later, Phil Lesh penned a tune called "Childhood's End" which sort of summed up what was about to happen to "the scene."

It's got that claasic thing going for it like Wavy Gravy's
"There's always a little heaven in a disaster area" which
I've used hundreds of times to explain how we had some
good times in Vietnam.
