so now the storm is over.  I have two days left on the ticker.  I must deal with the aftermath.  Mind you, it's 11 degrees outside.  The wind is still howling, and the wind chill factor is -6 degrees.

First step is to go out the back door (have to climb up and over the snow bank), come around to the kitchen door and work on it from the outside as the snow is so high on the kitchen stoop that it prevented the door from opening.

OK, ready for step two.

Yesterday afternoon, the sweet man who plows my driveway did a sweep of the drive.  I know he had my best interests at heart, but apparently he didn't listen to the weather forecast for a change over to freezing rain and/or just rain.  Up in these parts, you learn not to shovel snow if you think rain is coming -- the snow will absorb the rain and you won't have as big a problem.  Well, thanks to Earle, I now have the official Knowlton Memorial Ice Rink in my driveway -- it's perfectly smooth, and a entire sheet of ice -- thank god for the weight I've put on -- my big old rear end had enough fat cells on it to cushion the blow when I did a full scale wipeout (and I'm apparently now too old for the graceful wipeout days).  George and Bogart thought it was a game -- Mom's flaying around on the ground because she wants us to go over and lick her face.  Sorrell boots are great for snow -- not great for ice rinks.

So now for step three -- the car and kitchen steps.  Because of the freezing rain, I had to pound through close to an inch of ice before shoveling a foot of snow.  Trust me, this is beyond Jane Fonda workout tapes.

But, the good news is I'm shoveled out and just waiting for departure time!!!  Hopefully I'll be able to feel my fingers and toes by then.

Oh yeah -- forgot step four -- it's time for a cup of hot chocolate (gotta keep those fat cells built up for future falls) and a fire.:)

We've been enjoying our snow in St. Louis...climate change here has made any accumulation more than a dustiing a rarity over the past two decades.  Sunday I fired up the Trooper and headed for the wetlands to see what I could.  Trumpeter swans flying a foot off the ice, white pelicans fishing below the lock and dam, and about 60 eagles, mostly juveniles perched above the ferry route. Today it's going into the 40s and the slush will pull me out of my winter wonderland.  Culebra will be a catharsis from the whole aggravation.
