I love it that I'm getting to post FROM Culebra. I love this place!
We spent our fourth New Year's Eve on the ferry dock with our island friends. It was a blast as usual, except I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the band as they played more disco than Puerto Rican salsa. I'm not a dancer (two left feet) but I love to watch the Puerto Ricans get down.
There were lots of fireworks/kids/sparklers in the street. A little dangerous but all part of the fun. I wish American kids were a little less inhibited/protected by their parents. The Puerto Rican kids seem to have so much more fun that their counterparts in the mainland States, whose parents are always yelling at them that they're going to get hurt!
There was one kid that was trying to light his fuses into the wind and Lewis taught him how to block the wind to light it correctly, and the kid was all enthused about that "trick" and he even said thank you. . . There's another thing you don't get from the typical American kid - a simple thank you.
Our friends from Atlanta enjoyed the celebration, and we will be downloading/uploading pictures soon.
Happy New Year to everyone FROM la isla bonita!

Glad you enjoyed yourself.....since you're able to type this morning without spelling errors, I assume you remember the entire evening, and you didn't go night riding with greg or anything crazy like that?
Post your pics as soon as you have them -- tormenting Doug will be fun!
See you in 48 hours!

The good news is that I'll be there next New Years, and of course the better news is that I'll be there in a couple months. Wifey just got out of bed (it's 210pm, here) and I had the place spotless. That included good china and stemware for 12, not to mention burned on gravy on the roasting pan. I also saved the cats a yelling at - one of them had hurled some ill-gotten hors d'oeurves into one of her favorite shoes.
Last night, our fireworks almost didn't happen. We had big stuff (just under the stuff that commercial 'works companies use) and I was concerned about the 15 knot wind. Finally, about 1230, it died down and I went for it. Everyone's favorite was the "warthog", a new type of 'work, at least, to me. By last night, the temperature had dropped to 30 brrrrrrrrrrr.
That's a shame about the band. I'm not a disco fan. In the past didn't they alternate 2 bands of which one was PR? Looking forward to the pics.

The pix ain't happenin' today. Sorry.
After sleeping off the hangovers (no, I did not get sloppy drunk like last year; truly I hope to avoid that in the future), we had a big breakfast, slept in the hammocks, and then took our friends for an island tour. Had our first drink of the day at Monika and Walter's and then mosied back home for dinner. No time for managing pictures. Hope MJ doesn't think that getting a digital camera makes photography any more manageable.
Doug - I'll be right here with ya next New Years.
Laurie - call or stop by when you get here.
Last thing - Lewis played at Heather's on the 30th to a nice local crowd, but hasn't thought about/decided where he's playing next. After entertaining guests for a few days, we're ready for some together time, so I'm not sure he'll play again, but he's always up for private audiences. . .

Glad you had a great time! I am pretty sure we saw you and your friends with Walter and Monica and everyone looked bright-eyed and upright. I think a LOT of people decided to go with buzz rather than fuzz. This is either a sign of growing up or a sign of being hit in the head enough times to learn how to not to knock one's head against the hangover wall.
Managing photos? Ack! I'll be feeling great just to take some and figure out the details later It will be a long time before I'm in your class photo wise Debbie, yours are very wonderful.
Doug, good on you!!! A partner who takes care of cat excess AND does the dishes post NYE is good to hear about. I thought that was an endangered species.

The truth is, she did all the hard pre-party stuff. My cooking the bird(s) was a no-brainer. Also, her low cocktailing threshold and need for sleep to convalesce is a lesson long ago learned. So we've worked out a good routine for entertaining. The cat was the joker in the deck!

Debbie-
Are you trying to tell me you have higher priorities than posting NYE pix?
You mean diving, snorkling, beach bumming and island exploring are more important than your friends at GTC?
Oh.

I'll be impressed when she bakes habañero cookies with scotch bonnet icing.

Debbie - Thank you! As always, first class stuff. I especially like the first one and get the feeling I know her, but can't figure out the particulars.
And now the burning question is, did you and Walter hear the ocean?
