| The opening picture to the forum shows a wonderful ocean/beach area, but what is the water area above it (tidial flood plan, salt flat,)?

| The Flamenco Lagoon. I thought since you were moving to Culebra that you had been there before - no?

Thanks for infor, Yes I am moving to Culebra, and No I have never been there before,
Premove visits because of time restraints seem to give me a Tourist view not what its like. Also I can't stand waiting to return.

ummmmmmm....I try not to give unsolicited advice, but I can't more strongly recommend a scouting visit to Culebra before moving!! We can try and describe it the best we can, but I've never found adequate words to descibe Culebra, let alone living there.
It might work out for you, but you will be much better prepared with a pre-visit. Especially if you go there with the common sense of checking a place out first before moving, you won't see it as a tourist. it's not all fun and games on Culebra, and there is a dark side.

I agree completely with your advise and concern. If I still had a Jeep, furniture, Wiener Dogs, property, bills and the needed for a job I would definetly do a PMV. I don't have or needed any of those things. Hurricane Wilma reliefed me of material possesions, at 16 my dogs (Andy and Annabelle) went to Elysia, the VA gave me a pension, and my brother gave me 200,000 American Air Miles. So what I am really doing is somewhere between moving-------------------------and an adventure into the unknown. The Darkside!!!!! I read that and went outside to have a smoke to stop my drooling.

Sounds like Waterbear may just be tilted enough to be fine here for awhile...I think I was here three days when I went back to STX and mailed my stuff here and came over...and despite all bets from friends on other shores that I'd last six months as longevity hadn't been exactly a strong point for me, next Friday will be 5 years - how did THAT happen? -...and that was without a pension (or a dish or a glass or a pot to...oh never mind).

| I'm with admin on this one. But, if waterbear doesn't have any possessions, I guess that makes it easier to pick up and move on if he doesn't like it, or if the community doesn't embrace him (which we all know, can and does happen).

| All I wanted to know was the name/function of a small body of water. This is a great forum, and it certaining makes the time waiting to leave go by.

| I didn't mean that to be ugly. Culebra can be a harsh place to live, and it's easier to come and go if you don't have a lot of possessions is all I meant.

| LOL....case in point -- Culebra is the only place I have welcomed with wide open arms the poison (and I don't want to know the details, thank you) that comes fogging out of the "mosquito" truck -- i.e. the Sewer truck. It used to come up my hill, and sit outside of my house for eternity as the fog gently fell down the hill to the Barrio....but after a big rain, and the bug hatch, I don't know anyone that wasn't grateful for the poison injection....

WB,
I believe the lagoon is a marshy bog, draining the hills behind Flamenco basin. In dry stretches it can dry to a mucky consistency. It can have a bit of a ripeness to it, but it is a birder's paradise.

A euphimism for *hold your breath and don't breathe 'til you're through the gate*?

Yes...but I changed it...if there is one thing I try NOT to promote, it's driving faster on Culebra...did the cart ever get clipped when you had it?

Remember when the road to Flamenco wasn't paved? It would take forever to get there. You could really appreciate the aroma of the lagoon then.

LOL....I remember walking the dirt road out to Flamenco.....and that special ripeness made my steps very quick!
And yes, the cart was clipped once when I was sitting there (nothing like a truck hitting your cart full of hot sauce bottles to get your heart beat stepped up), and I know of at least 2 other times when I saw evidence of it being clipped......
