| Many years ago we took Muffs Magic Boat over to Culebrita. What a hoot. Does anyone know if he still has that boat?

| That'd be Capt. Jack. I think Muff's days are behind her, but Jack and Capt. Pat operate the S.S. Tanama for similar destinations.

| Except Tanama's been out of commission for some time. They do still do snorkeling tours, just not on Tanama.

| What was that pontoon boat I saw Jack driving? Coulda sworn it was Tanama w/o the canvass.

It was indeed Tanama, both Tanama and Muff need
repairs so they usually don't charter anymore, but they use
Tanama personally and it made a recent appearance at
Nancy Hapgood's Memorial service.

OK, I'll post here -- I was holding off.....but sadly, and very ironically, Tanama's last passenger/public voyage may have been to spread Nancy's ashes with Lana out to Lana's cove.....her hulls are taking on too much water, and almost sank.....
we're all hoping for a boat-repair god to show up and fix her, but it won't be for a while...

I saw Tanama swanning through the waters today. Never say maybe on Culebra Muff is...muffled for now.

Maybe Jack could get Tanama fitted with a periscope to view topside from underwater. Kind of ironic after all those years of viewing underwater from topside, eh? <rimshot>
Thank you folks, I'll be here every night through Saturday...

I just caught the last post by Doug, it reminded me
of a day when I was goofing with Jack.
'Welcome aboard Muff the Magic Diving Boat,
the name will become apparent shortly,
please put on your Mask, in case of
rapid descent, also have your fins handy
as me may need to give old Muff a friendly
push, the battery doesn't work when wet,
but we have installed an 18' work prop and
with six people in the water paddling like the
dickens we should be able to "push start her"
All part of your incredible adventure on
Muff. Don't forget your entitled to the
Muff Diving Certificate plus please read the
new fine print

Last spring break we brought my parents and another family to Culebra for the first time. While they all enjoyed themselves, it maybe isn't exactly their FIRST choice of destinations.
We decided to head to Culebrita one day, and called Capt. Pat. There were 11 of us, too many for Tanama, so she said we would divide up with Gailin, who was already taking a couple people there. There was only room for 5 of us with Gailin, so the other 6 hopped on Tanama. After life vesting up the kids, Capt. Jack asked us to all sit as close to him as possible, as it is a "wet boat". We had a nice, leisurely ride, seeing a turtle in the bay and watching the other half of our group speed past us on their way to Culebrita. We arrived about 1/2 hour after Gailin's boat and all hiked over to Tortuga. At the designated time, we met Capt. Jack and Gailin back at the other beach. The other group from Gailin were staying longer, so we could put almost our whole group on the fast boat!!! We decided that my parents, with my mom's bad back, and the 5 and 6 year old kids should go on Tanama since it would be a smoother ride. We also took all the food and the cooler with us, so my parents wouldn't have to lug it. Jack was taking his time getting ready, so off the rest of us headed on Gailin's fast, red boat! We were packing up our car in town and my cell phone rings. It is my dad, with a bad connection, saying they had some engine trouble and were stuck on Culebrita.
Here they were, stuck with no food or water, the two youngest and the two oldest of our group. I tried Gailin's cell phone, but no answer, he probably couldn't hear it with the boat running. I finally got ahold of Capt. Pat on her cell. She had a diving group on Luis Pena, but at least I could let her know what was going on. When her group finished their dive, she explained the situation and in lieu of their next dive stop, took a detour to Culebrita to pick up our group, about 3 hours after we had left them. Muff the Magic Dive Boat to the rescue!!!
Over drinks upon their return to us, my dad told of Capt. Jack's responses to his queries of do you have a radio, cell phone?? No, no point here, nobody listens to the radios and you don't get a cell phone signal here. Not to worry, Capt. Jack said, someone will realize they are gone eventually! Needless to say, this was not exactly the laid back island attitude they expected. They weathered it well, and it is one of our favorite stories now. My son still talks about the time he was stranded on a deserted island! No matter what, we will always speak fondly of Muff!
