And May is starting with mucho sol! The fans are on, the clothes are light and the water at the beach is seriously warming up. We're on the quiet side of really quiet around Culebra (except for the sewer pipe guys who work until 9:30 or so in the evening around my neighborhood...it's still our turn).

A shopping trip to the big island yesterday was a slow but calm cargo ferry ride, to and from. Does it really take longer every time I go over or just seem that way? But I got to cross lots of things off my list, which was a good thing.

Getting up pre-dawn to head to the dock I first took a wander through the yard and did a little bit of watering. On my way around the corner, even in the grey light, I could see this frangipani bloom glowing like its own little sun. Oh joy!!! I took a picture immediately because I was afraid the iguanas might discover it before I came home. But it is still safe and sound, with its neighbor buds ready to stun my eyes soon. I'd forgotten how beautiful this is (as I said, five years since it bloomed through no fault of its own). Glory!

And what are YOU (the you of my brother, but the you of whoever might be reading this) doing to celebrate Cinco de Mayo??? Arroz con pollo? Picadillo? Running through the streets with flowers in your hair? And do you know what Cinco de Mayo is about? Have you googled it yet? Ok, here's a little history head start, if you are interested: http://www.vivacincodemayo.org/history.htm

But...oh my!!! It's raining! We'll see how long this lasts but it's not a sprinkle, it's...more. For now. go go go go (even though it's just a tiny bit on the radar, it's right over us and hovering...hover on!)

Ah, for Cinco de Mayo I'll be backed up on the beach at my favorite spot in the Keys with the teardrop Trailer and me wench. I've got a 100'  extentention cord to steal electricity for the AC and a 5 day igloo cooler full of beer and steaks, a load of charcoal, dive gear, knives and forks, butter, salt, pepper, fresh key limes and a bucha corn, asparagus, tomatoes ,and a spirit of adventure, I see lobster and snapper in my dreams, and a bottle of Cruzan Rum, life is good. (Til wednesday, then its back to the coal mines..for a while)

Me likey Caribe's plan.  Mine actually involves a 100' extension cord, too.  For the twinkle lights and the boombox under the pop-up pavillion I'm taking to the Azalia Festival in Fredericktown, MO.  It's a quasi-Big Chill weekend with friends in from Poplar Bluff, MO (home of Tyler Hansbrough), Corpus Christi, TX, St. Louis and parts east.  I've got Saturday breakfast.  Doing two cassaroles.  One is like a savory, not sweet, french toast recipe made with eggs, milk and sage topped with melted cheddar.  The other is a shreaded potato, shallots, jack cheese, ham, and mushroom strata.  I tested 'em out last weekend and they're ready for prime time.  Serving with Segura Viudas mimosas.  So what if its only tres de mayo?

BTW, Manhattans on dos de mayo.

Margaritas on el cinco verdades.  Wherever the gang is.

And  I love the frangipani.  I never knew it was a flower until your pix.  I once ordered a cake from a bakery that had frangipani trim.  Hard candyish.

Wow...you two have upp'd the ante here! I'm going to have to actually DO something for Cinco de Mayo now...or at least the weekend (whatever that is).

Sounds like great plans, hope it is perfect weather with excellent company.
