Great Pictures and looks like a wonderful celebration.
I want to make sure that no one interpret my earlier
post as opposed to local celebration and remembrance.
My post was inspired by the Boy Scout Photo from
Debbie and the incrdible link from Doug. True respect
and remembrances.
My earliest memories of Memorial Day as a child were
a little local parade in Euclid where Barbara and I grew up.
Kids were playing outside, summer was upon us, and all
of a sudden the eerie sounds of bagpipes, we followed
the sound on our bicycles and found the source, the
American Legion Hall preparing to begin a very local
Memorial Day Parade and after a community picnic.
Cataclysmic events would befall this patriotic and
classically American generation of the 1950's and
1960's. Through the relentless prosecution of an
unholy war, many would turn into Anti-war protesters
and diminish the honor and respect due anyone who in
good faith served their country. I'm glad we have "come
of age" enough to know the difference between honorable
service and questionable wars. A new generation now
carries this dichotomous burden.
This twist in American patriotism was incredibly
portyrayed in "Born on the Fourth of July" starring
Tom Cruise as the ill fated Ron Hovic, based on a true
story. If you never saw it, please don't miss it.
particularly if your under 40.
