While the full moon-rise was delayed awhile by low clouds it was still pretty spectacular, with Mars glowing red as the opening act.
The fairly intense heat of the day turned to good sleeping weather coolness, even the mosquitos decided to take the night off.
Today looks to be a little cloudy but our chances for rain, unlike much earlier forecasts for this weekend, have diminished to not much reason to carry an umbrella. Of course, having written that, expect a downpour sometime today!
The full moon this morning...

This is as close to Mars as I could get on a shaky dock, even with the tripod (does that excuse work?)

| Great picture of Mars - does a tripod really work on a shaky deck (or was that just an anticipatory excuse in case some curmudgeon complained?) At the risk of getting technicolor, what size lens were you using for the Mars picture?

Nope, I really was using a tripod on a shaky dock...and I just use the lens that comes with the Canon 6.0 - 72.0 is what it says on it, zoomed out all the way, which is 48x. Someone explained it better, it's a 12x zoom but it goes lots farther.
I'm such a tech head. Let admin explain it! I just shoot pictures.

You do "just shoot the pictures", and great ones they are. I was just curious about how you got Mars so large.
Feininger, who was a great photographer back in the days of real cameras (when men were men and film was film ), complained about people who asked him what camera he used, what film, what focal length, etc. He said that it was if people think that technique and technology are all that goes into taking a great picture. He also pointed out that people don't ask authors what kind of typewriter (well, it was a long time ago) they used when they wrote a great novel.

Well, I agree about film and say all the time that digital lets me cheat like mad. I used to have a couple of good SLR's and never got good at them, despite having some brilliant photog friends who tried repeatedly to teach me. But math is not my forte and that stuff is ALL about math!!! But it does matter, and I wish I could absorb a bit more. Most likely I won't though; I can't even figure out Photoshop I just got Mars so big because the camera let me. Thanks, camera!

| Pretty darn successful -- the shakiness actually adds to the shot, methinks.

Yeah, in a Twilight Zonish way, it does.
