Here is what they are saying out of San Juan about upcoming weather, brought to you by 92L. Hopefully the rain / thunderstorms will hold off until AFTER my plane leaves for SJ (because you know, it's all about ME!) It looks like our hopes for it to stay a wave rather than generate have been granted for now, and rain is a good thing (just ask the people who will be watering my garden!)

This afternoon...enough moisture will be available to combine with
diurnal heating and generate scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms over the western interior and southwest portions of
Puerto Rico. Subsidence occurring to the east of the tropical wave
will move west over the local forecast area late this afternoon.
This will limit the shower development through late evening.
Moisture is expected to increase as the tropical wave moves closer
to the region.

The tropical wave located about 400 miles east of the Lesser
Antilles still disorganized but some development is expected in
the next 24 hours. The center of this system is expected to move
north of our local area but associated moisture Promise an
increase on shower coverage between Thursday and Saturday.

And for the pictoral minded...(and by the way, did anyone get out and see the highlight of the Perseid meteor showers? I was a bit late, then tried to watch too early at 1ish a.m.; around 3 a.m. I did get to see quite a few though, as the moon had set - pretty pretty, and what a way to calm the spirit, staring up at the sky full of diamonds with quiet all around...)

OR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

1. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS REMAIN DISORGANIZED IN ASSOCIATION WITH A
BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE AND A TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED ABOUT 300
MILES EAST OF THE LESSER ANTILLES...AND THE AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT
HURRICANE HUNTER AIRCRAFT MISSION SCHEDULED FOR TODAY HAS BEEN
CANCELED. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE ONLY MARGINALLY FAVORABLE
FOR DEVELOPMENT AND THE POTENTIAL FOR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION
DURING THE NEXT DAY OR TWO HAS DECREASED. THIS SYSTEM WILL
CONTINUED TO BE MONITORED AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 10 TO
15 MPH.

2. SHOWER ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH A BROAD LOW PRESSURE AREA LOCATED
ABOUT 700 MILES WEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS HAS BECOME A LITTLE
MORE CONCENTRATED THIS MORNING. SOME ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF THIS
SYSTEM IS POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS IT MOVES
WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH.

In St. L, we set the alarm for 2am, when the moon was to set (BTW this was Monday night going into Tuesday morning, the peak).  It had been cloudless all day, into the evening, but the pesky gods of  mischief blew in a cool front with full overcast at 130am.

MJ, have a wonderful adventure, surrounded by friends, family and great friends-to-be.  Feast eyes on new vistas.  And of course, a trip report is the coin of the realm...:P.

Thank you, Doug and others who have sent good wishes. It will be a wonderful trip and wonderful to return. I'm leaving you all in the capable hands of Hillman, who I'm thankful is willing to take on the job, and he does an EXCELLENT job of it! Mucho gracias!

I'm sure somewhere along the way I'll be checking in. You can take the Island Woman out of Culebra, but you can't take Culebra out of the Island Woman!

Don't do it MJ, don't go to the dark side.  It starts with lipstick, then the next thing you know you are wearing pantyhose and it's too late for you!!  RUN AWAY!!!
