Bill's rain gauge had to hit a benchmark this morning that it hasn't seen for a LONG time!
I think it would be safe to say that cisterns got, if not overflowing, a huge hit with a hard rain that seemed to go on for hours and maybe it did. There is water standing in the yard (I remember typing that SOOO long ago!) and it is sloppy muddy. At one point in the downpour I hoped the plants wouldn't drown or be beaten up but went back to sleep knowing the rain was good and that plants will make it or not - my worrying hasn't ever affected the universe yet (don't tell anyone though, because I do claim that power on occasion)
Water from the heights is pouring off the island through my yard in rivulets, which are mesmerizing me - I guess it's the novelty of RAIN WATER IN MY YARD! Woo hoo!
There is a flash flood warning in effect "through this evening." The official word is:
Synopsis...the remnants of an old frontal boundary remain north
of the forecast area...producing active weather conditions that
should linger until at least Wednesday. High pressure will build
over the western Atlantic for a slight increase in northeast
winds. An episode of north northeast swells will increase seas on
Monday making small craft advisories necessary.
I left the hose in this photo so no one would mistake this for a mighty, raging river! I stayed safe on the bank of my porch (a GOOD four inches above) taking this photograph, but kids, make sure you have an adult with you before trying this at home!

that must be a very welcome sight to very dry eyes!!! Mud wrestling really is fun! And the plants may have gotten a little beat up, but they'll bounce back better than before!!!!

There is a 6' edging of a layer of mud (yuk, take a look) along the Ensenada Honda. The blue of the Ensenada Honda is gone. It is now totally mud brown. If there ever was an example of the results of stripping the land here it is. All builders should be required to take a swim off a dock!
Does anyone have a recording of the amount of rain? Even a pail left out in it might give us an inkling. My pail is overflowing, but I think it wasn't empty to start with.

Jackie, that is a great idea -- line the developers up on the gang plank (the town dock will suffice), and they willl need to jump in one by one and swim to their "water" front property.
sorry about your mud flats, but SO glad you all got rain!!! Enjoy that fresh green which will pop out of every bush and tree in a day or two!!

Bill Kunke says we got 6.5 inches of rain, Jesse says he got about 4.5 on his end.
I too was completely disgusted and depressed walking in to town today. The run off is so bad...and the trash shows up like it has spotlights on it. My bay is also completely brown - the street ends from the clear off by Genesis and the school are full of mud, gravel, tar bits.
Maybe people think, oh, my project is not going to do much damage (if they think at all). Here is one small cleared off hillside, and the results of that clearing (solution? replant immediately, use plastic cloth *fences* to contain run off, don't clear off like this in the first place).

And here is why the bays are mud filled...through the mangroves, about 10 feet away? That would be Ensenada Honda. The concrete ghuts (I don't know what they are called here, that's what we call them in the VI's) are totally muddy and filled with trash, which is going right into the bay. When I first moved here, a very short time of five years ago, a big rain would fill the the ghuts with clear water...yes, there was trash then too, but at least the water was clear. It takes a lot of the joy of the rain away and THAT is really sad.

I wonder how Brava looks below the illegally bulldozed area? It's be worth getting some pictures to document erosion. I'm guessing a significant canyon is in the works.

Yikes indeed...that doesn't count the whole next night and next day of rain, which was significant. Hopefully Bill will post the total soon! There is still a bit of water standing in my yard and a LOT of muddy soil, and the children's garden has a pool around the containers with melons, cukes and carrots. But I think it will go away soon...the hills are almost drained off and Lake Island Woman was a mere puddle when I saw it late this afternoon.

Happy to hear about your welcome rain Sis, as for making the developers walk the plank, I could contribute enough from here in SOFLO to fill shipping container, after shipping container to add to the parade, it seems a bit unfair to the fish, but an overall improvement to the planet! Enjoy the greening, but, ...um, enter the skeeters

Yes...the skeeters...that's why God made poison mosquito trucks, isn't it? Please use your containers of baddies to make a new reef for the fish up there. In more polluted waters, no one will notice the smell.
