On a day of pale blue skies over bright sun, take a moment to raise a toast the mothers in your lives. Maybe they are birth mothers, or maybe adopted by law or by life chance. Maybe it was a teacher or someone who cooked your favorite meals when you couldn't or someone you know you can go to for wisdom, whether easy or difficult to listen to.
Mother, Mom, Ma, Mama, Mami, Grandma too...sometime along the way, we get touched by a woman with a mother soul, whether she *borned us* or was brought into our path along the way. They shed more light than the sun, and make the word cozy a temperature.
Salut!

A Mother's Day prayer from Standing Women.org (there will be national Mother's Day vigils where this prayer will be read followed by an hour of standing meditation)
We are standing for the world's children and grandchildren, and for the seven generations beyond them.
We dream of a world where all of our children have safe drinking water, clean air to breathe, and enough food to eat.
A world where they have access to a basic education to develop their minds and healthcare to nurture their growing bodies.
A world where they don't live in fear of violence---in their home, in their neighborhood, in their school or in their world.
This is the world of which we dream.
This is the world for which we stand.

Thank you M.J. how very thoughtful of you.
My mother carried a newspaper
clipping from the early fifties.
I was adopted in 1952.
Not flesh of my flesh,
nor bone of my bone,
but still, miraculously my own.
Never forget for a single minute,
you didn’t grow under my heart, but in it.

You're welcome, Jim. Adoption is an issue very close to my heart...I gave my first daughter up for adoption, met her when she was eighteen (one of those *shoulda been on tv* stories - beside the fact that we were wearing the same earrings and the same shoes when we met) and we have been heart to heart close ever since.
This morning she thanked me again for letting her be born...sniff oh yeah. She's the one a lot of you all met when she was here months ago...beautiful Michelle, who is a miracle cancer survivor, a miracle in my world, whose parents I am most thankful for, whose life is forever part of my being. Plus the grandkids...I'm so lucky, so blessed!

I checked out Grafton Loading Dock...knowing what a party animal I am, I have to say the thing I noticed and am jealous about is the Flea Market! It sounds great and I wanna go (my version of DIF). One reason it is cheap for me to live on Culebra - no flea markets like that or weekly garage sales to lure me and my wallet...

My favorite vendor at the flea market is the guy who sells to coin collectors. My coin collection (and every other thing of value) disappeared while I was in the service. I didn't try, at the time, to rebuild it. Indian head pennies were some of my favorites, and I have bought three from this guy for under $5 apiece. They are all in good enough shape to still have "Liberty" readable on the headband, and, if memory serves, that indicates VG or very good condition.
The bar reminds me of the Lorelei in the Keys. Lots of decks and ramps, and a bandstand that backs up to the water (the Illinois R., not the Gulf). The vibe in Grafton is Malibu Beach hot rods and Harleys in summer and nerdy birders in winter. I fit in either way, so I spend lots of Sundays there.
MJ, I think DIF has different symptoms for you than for me. My symptoms are intense longing to be there!
Doug
