At 82 degrees, and an overcast but with stars night, the wind, which was blustering all day, has abated. Sailors waiting for a promising wind might find the morning in their favor.

The humidity is 65 percent. The barometer shows no change in the offing.

Even as I was taking this picture, the whole plant was quivering and opening up, literally. I wish I had the patience to do time lapse stuff, because after 4 years of waiting, I am finally going to get flowers from this orchid...is it the Sahara dust factor?? (yes, switching topics indeed!)

too cool.....yes, the dust could have been a contributing factor, but I found that a lot of things in Culebra's nature only happened during or close to May -- 2 or 3 times, I got to see the annual mating and then birth of the land hermit crabs -- pretty cool to see hundreds of crabs climbing up the hill in back of my house, I guess on their way to a romantic moonlit picnic as high as they could get. The hatch would happen in the tidal zone -- on a calm beach (usually the one over by Electric beach) -- thousands of baby's the size of a pin head using little bits of sand and rock as their first shell.....pretty awesome.....
