This only took me a lucky thirteen days to process, and get up on the web.
Dougie - I hope this takes away some of the global warming pain you are experiencing at the moment!
Enjoy!

did you skip the fine point about posting links to pictures of spiders? Just not allowed -- UGH!!! webmistress doesn't do spiders. and there is no negotiating on that.

Note to self: don't piss off the webmistress!
The only other time I'd seen a spider half that size was in the same exact location. That time, before I knew they were harmless, it got whacked with a fin while I was in the outdoor shower (not by me; by the wonderful man that came running when I squealed). Listen - my friend Terri that came with us this trip, is the daughter of a veterinarian, and the only thing she doesn't do (animal wise) is spiders. They don't bother me (at least in a smaller form factor). Cucarachas bother me; I promise you'll never see a picture of one of those on my website.
Sorry to freak you out - I should have posted a warning!

I used to work in a vets office too -- maybe we know that spiders are not animals - they are monsters. And they ARE dangerous -- spiders give heart attacks.
Wait until you see the mango spiders -- they're as big, but faster and really agressive, and love to come into the house. They're only around 2-3 times a year, but I'll never, ever, ever, ever (did I say ever) get over having to deal with them.
I've called the cops before to deal with the trantuluas....uuuuuugggggggggghhhhh......I had one crawl across my foot one night when I was at my desk......
and here's a funny story about my ex (I'll be nice and not use his name) -- he killed one in our driveway for me by smashing it with a 2x4 -- note to all: step back when doing this -- spider guts are totally disgusting and spray everywhere -- like a huge oversized zit actually. He got it all over his legs, and was totally disgusted.....and being the sweet, loving wife that I was (not), I was rolling on the ground laughing so hard I was crying.....

That is disgusting and hilarious at the same time. I'm glad a scuba fin is not so traumatic (to the spider) as a 2x4.
And, I hope that mango spiders are like lizards in my house - non-existent. I've been lucky with lizards; may I be blessed with the same luck with spiders!

| you are sick, and your friend is sicker (add that to being in the hot sauce business, and he'd done for).....I can't believe in all your trips you haven't seen one.....count yourself lucky.....I can do snakes, rodents (I once had at least 7 rats run up a board I had picked up in my shed and run all over my neck and head), roaches, scorpions -- you name it -- but spiders make my crumble. Although I will say that having lived in Culebra for as long as I did, I see "normal" spiders in the States, and can walk away without severe drama.....
